Privacy policy

These are the practices of this website and the parent mailing list. The app collects different things, and has its own privacy policy.

What we collect

If you type your email address into the form on our page, we keep that address. That is all. We do not ask for your name, your location, or anything at all about your child.

Our pages have no advertising pixels and no cookies. One thing is written to your device, and only one: a random number, held for as long as your tab is open. It is there so that when our page breaks we can tell that ten error messages came from one visit rather than from ten different people. Closing the tab throws it away. It is never joined to your email address, it cannot follow you to another site, and it cannot tell us you have been here before.

How we count visitors

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count how many people read a page and which pages they reach. It tells us totals and nothing else. It sets no cookie, stores nothing on your device, does not follow you to other sites, and does not build a profile of you or work out who you are. We cannot pick one visitor out of it, because the information simply is not there. It is the only outside service these pages call on, and we keep that list as short as we can.

When our page goes wrong

We also collect our own faults. If our code throws an error, or the page is slow to appear, or it jumps about under your finger while it loads, your browser tells us so: the error message, the line of our own code it came from, and how long each part took. That is a bug report about our page. It goes to our own server and to nobody else's, and it is the reason we hear about a broken page at all.

What it does not carry, and this is the part worth being exact about: not your browser's name or version, not your screen size, not your language, not your time zone, not your IP address, and nothing you have typed. We do not record how far you scrolled, how long you stayed, or what you clicked. There is no profile of you in it, because those are the pieces a profile would be built from and they are not collected. We keep it for a little over a year and then it is deleted automatically.

There is no cookie banner on this site, and that is not an oversight. A banner exists to ask permission to set a cookie or to follow you about. We set no cookie, and the one random number described above is gone when your tab closes and cannot follow you anywhere, so there is nothing to ask you about.

What we do with your address

We use it to email you about new episodes, printable experiment sheets, and the app when it is ready. We do not sell it, rent it, or pass it to anyone for their own use.

Where it is kept, and who else sees it

With our hosting provider, Google Firebase, on their servers in the United States. Only we can read the list.

One other company is involved: Resend, which sends our email. Your address is passed to them so a message can reach you, and for no other purpose. They process it in the United States. Nobody else receives it, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

Our emails carry no tracking. There is no invisible pixel telling us whether you opened one, and the links are not rewritten to record what you clicked. Resend does tell us whether your mail provider accepted the message or turned it away, so that we stop writing to an address that no longer works. That is delivery, not reading.

This list is for grown-ups

Please do not sign a child up, and please do not send us a child’s details. If you think a child has given us an address, email us and we will delete it straight away.

Joining takes two steps

Typing your address into the form does not put you on the list. We email that address a link, and only a click on it adds you. If you never click, we send nothing further and the address is removed. It means nobody can sign you up for something you did not ask for.

Leaving, and asking us to delete you

Every email has an unsubscribe link. One click, no login and no questions: the address is deleted there and then, not flagged and kept. You can also write to hello@sproutnicks.com and ask us to remove your address, or to tell you what we hold. We delete rather than archive.

Changes

If this policy changes we will update the date above and say so in an email.
