App privacy policy

These are the practices of the Sproutnicks app. This website and the parent mailing list are covered by a separate privacy policy.
Who we are
Sproutnicks is made by Ozaar LLC. This policy explains what we collect when your family uses the app, why, and how you can review or delete it at any time. It is written for the parent reading it, not for a young learner.
The account belongs to the parent
Every account is created by a grown-up, behind a math question a young learner cannot pass. We collect the parent's name and email address for this, and nothing else about the parent, and nothing at all about the child. Guest use, with no account, is fully supported and keeps everything on the device.
What we know about a child profile
A child profile is one of four characters and a colour that character already owns. There is no name field, no birthday, no age, and no photo. If a parent sets a nickname for the certificate, that word is stored only on the device. It is never sent to us, never synced, and never part of the account. Progress (stars earned, quiz results, certificates) is tied to the profile's character, not to any real-world identity, and syncs only if the parent has created an account.
What we never collect
No child's name, birthday, age, photo, or location. No advertising identifiers, and no identifier of any kind that follows a child from one session to the next. No microphone or camera access, so the app never records a child. No contacts, no browsing history, and no data sold or shared for advertising, ever.
Counting how the app is used
The app sends us anonymous counts of things happening, like an episode being watched, a quiz being finished, or the subscription page being opened. This is how we find out which parts of the app work and which are being missed. These counts carry no name, no email, and no identifier for your device or your child, so they cannot be traced back to anyone or joined together into a record of what one child did. We keep them for 400 days, after which they are deleted automatically. We run this ourselves rather than handing it to an advertising or analytics company.
How we use what we collect
The parent's email and name let a parent sign back in and receive their child's progress report. Progress records let the app show what a child has finished and let a parent see it too. We do not use any of this for advertising, and we do not build profiles of children for any purpose.
Who we share it with
Nobody, for any commercial purpose. We use two service providers to run the app: Firebase (Google), for sign-in and for checking purchases, and Cloudflare, to host and stream episode video. Both act only on our instructions and do not use family data for their own purposes.
Your rights as a parent
You can review what is held about your account any time in Settings, and delete your account and all associated data yourself, at any time, from the same screen. It's self-service and takes effect immediately, not a support request. If you ever have a question this screen does not answer, write to us at the address below.
Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect the data we hold, provided by Firebase's infrastructure. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but the surface here is deliberately small: there is very little to protect because we collect very little to begin with.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page and, for a meaningful change, let signed-in parents know directly.
